Draft Logo Project

Idea and Inspiration: For this logo I decided to cross two fishing poles with the title ‘Nicks Fishin’ Adventures’ at the top. My course topic relates to me going around Eastern Washington and fishing, so this logo relates perfect for what I am trying to accomplish.

Design Process: I wanted to include a fishing pole because I thought that would be a good way to represent what my project was representing. I decided to add the second pole to even out the logo. I looked up a cartoon fishing pole on google and based the poles I made after that. Also the text at the top of the logo is significant because because it makes it personal yet adds more professionalism to the logo. My process included using different shapes to put together my pole, I then filled all the shapes with different colors. I then added the text at the top of logo.

Technical Details: I used google to look up a cartoon fishing pole, and based the one I made off of that picture. All of my wishing pole was made of of the rectangle and the circle tool. I used the text tool to create the title at the top of the logo. I wanted to add a fish at the top of my logo, but was unsure how to create one.

Final Graphic Design Project

For my poster I decided to create a multi-view platform which makes readers think they are looking at the same thing just from different angles. This poster encompasses my subject, which is fishing.

I thought of the idea of going for the same look just different views when I saw the picture of the boy and his dog on Flickr. The two fish that are being caught are the same types of fish that are caught here in eastern Washington. My process started with the panoramic picture on top, which I took. I them found the fish pictures and the boy and dog picture on Flickr.

On Adobe, I used the hue/saturation tool to make the poster more vibrant. Also, the text feature came in handy as I listed the title and came up with a creative font. Cropping the image was still a challenge for me, and I still wasn’t able to figure out how to blend everything together.

The feedback I received helped a lot. The biggest thing I found that needed work was the title. I ended up changing the coloring and the font to make it more artistic.

Draft Graphic Design Project

Idea and Inspiration: For this project I decided to make a photo collage with the three photos I used in my Image Collection. The two bigger pictures is how I look and what I see when I fish, and the third picture is what I’m hoping to be catching when I’m fishing. All these photos relate to my topic of Fishing in Eastern Washington.

Design Process: This design inspired from myself wanting to incorporate three different perspectives: What I look like, what I see, and what I am trying to catch. I was also inspired from an example project that I saw in the instructions. The process of coming up with my design was I first found two pictures on Flickr and one of my own to use. Next, I came up with the idea of going the three perspectives from one of the example projects. Next, I used Photoshop to edit my design based on what I wanted incorporated into it.

Technical Detail: For my project, I used two free-to-use photos off of Flickr.com. Those two photos where the boy laying on his dog and the picture of the salmon. The panoramic photo of the Snake River was a picture I took. On Adobe Photoshop, I included features like text, magnetic lasso, hue/saturation alters, image cropping, and grouping different layers. A problem I found was that I was trying to blend where the panoramic picture and boy laying on dog picture meet. I struggled to figure it out, so I ended up just cropping the pictures so the ends of them met. I do not have any tips for anyone trying to do the same thing because I haven’t figured out how to, but I am going to work on figuring it out.

This is one of the most common types of fish in Eastern Washington, Coho Salmon. This is a fish I would love to teach someone how to catch.

This is a picture I took while fishing in the Snake River. This is to give views an idea of where my videos will be taking place.

Intro: Fishing in Eastern Washington

The topic that I have chosen for my COM 210 class will be “Fishing in Eastern Washington”. I chose this topic because fishing is something that I have loved from a young age, and the more I get to talk about it the better. Being born and raised in the Bay Area, most of the fishing I did there was in the delta. Now since I have a car, I am very excited to start doing some river fishing in one of the greatest places in the country to do it.

For this project, I think that collecting the materials I need will come hand in hand. I plan on going fishing once every weekend, so while I’m there I can take photos, videos, and even log how that fishing trip went. By the time the project is ready to be turned in, I will have tons of material I have taken from all my fishing trips that will work well in my project.

For the logo project, my logo definitely has to have something to do with fishing. Whether I chose to incorporate a fish, a pole, or some other fishing aspect in my logo, I would also like to mix in my initials to give it a personal feel.

For my video story, I plan on making a simple how-to video to show the basics of fishing. The video will include the best spots in eastern Washington to go, what pole setups to use, and the best tactics on how to approach catching a fish. I can either set up a tripod behind me while I am fishing or get one of my friends to film for me.
